H is for heron

Spring is definitely trying to make an entrance!
There's still snow and ice on the ground, but the first of the
great blue herons have migrated back to their nesting ground.

  1. I too like herons. They seem prehistoric.

Is this a birch tree? Looks like it has smooth bark that tends to peel.

  2. Until last year, I'd seen a great blue heron only once in my life. This past sumer, we bought kayaks, and we saw them nearly every time we went out. They are most magnificent birds.
